FIFA awards hosting of the 2027 Women’s World Cup to Brazil

May 17 – Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has called the choice of Brazil as host for the 2027 Women’s World Cup a “victory for the women’s game’.
In the Thai capital, Brazil won the FIFA Congress vote 118-79 to land the hosting rights to the 2027 finals, seeing off the European triumvirate of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany whose European bid was marked lower by FIFA’s bid evaluation.

May 23 – Next season’s Champions League final will be staged at Budapest’s 67,215-capacity Puskas Arena, UEFA have decided.
The stadium has already hosted a number of major football events since its opening, including four games at Euro 2020 and – most recently – the 2023 Europa League final between Sevilla and Roma.
From next season, the number of teams in the competition will increase from 32 to 36 as part of a new Champions League format agreed by UEFA in 2022.

April 30 – The US and Mexico have decided to pull out of bidding for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, with the US Soccer Federation (USSF) telling its member bodies in a letter that it is instead focussing on a bid for the hosting rights to 2031.
With the US pulling out that leaves just two bidders left – the combined bid of Belgium, Netherlands and Germany, against the solo bid of Brazil.
