The title of this blog post was misleading - the author contends that some of the mistakes job seekers make are surprising.
I've been conducting executive search for almost 30 years. I can assure you that these mistakes are among the most common job search, resume, and interviewing errors that executive candidates make over and over again.
I do want to zero in on one mistake the author mentioned that I find excludes the vast majority of job seekers from even getting a shot at an interview.
It's the issue of writing generic cover letters that look like a form letter. This MUST be customized to the specific role. Not writing a custom cover letter for an executive position is practically a guarantee your resume will be thrown in the trash can.
