Finding full-time work is particularly difficult for those in their 50s and older

The process of filling out employment applications and answering ads on job boards - especially for workers with issues (older, gaps in employment, lack of education, etc) in the eyes of employers - is a worthless approach to job hunting. If you find an opportunity through this traditional and tribal approach to job hunting it will be random luck.

Leveraging social networking sites like LinkedIn and classic networking/job referrals is a more effective job hunting strategy. The problem for many seeking a job in this economy is that they lack the skills and knowledge to use this more effective approach to job hunting.
