It is quite the achievement to make it through the resume evaluation phase of the job search process, a phone interview and any number of in-person interviews. With only one open position to be handed out, many perfectly ...
Interesting analogy comparing job search and interviewing to Olympic competition. I agree that you don't call someone who fails at job search or interviewing a loser.
The problem is a little different. Those who continually miss the mark on getting interviews and don't get asked back or offered jobs frequently DO NOT have the skills and knowledge to compete effectively in today's job market.
The vast majority of candidates -whether it be at the entry level or executive level still rely on old, tired, tribal, and traditional methods of sending out resumes and answering ads on job boards.
This is a worthless approach to job hunting. Sometimes you get lucky and find something. The better opportunities go to those who are leveraging on-line and off-line networking. Unfortunately, most job seekers have not learned and applied how to network - thus they fall back on 1970s methods of finding a job - sending resumes and answering ads. No wonder the average time it takes to find a job has risen so fast.
